Artist's Comments 's anti-hero, Kyle, again.I've been thinking long about how I want to present the characters for this book. The stylised look from ' Sin City ' was mentioned soon after I started this commission, but that had never really gelled in my mind. At the weekend, I was at an old art school buddy's flat and I was taken by his huge framed prints of Hellboy and Hendrix - all black outlines, and red apart from significant splashes of white. That got me thhinking of a style, somewhere between my own and Frank Miller - the first test of which is right here. The text was added to try to give some meaning to the character's grim countenance and is, I believe, a quote which follows a rather disturbing moment in the book. The layers of red were supposed to look hellish, but ended up looking a bit like a burst lava lamp...  In any case, I'm glad now that I can see some kind of overall look beginning to form for this project. |

I will be moving in two weeks, and things are going to be crazy-hectic for a least a month or two after that, but then I begin in earnest.

I'l try a couple more Kyle tests and then think about the rest of the characters. One thing I still realy want to do, is the whole ' group shot ' - of everybody, around the time they all get together at the barbecue. That's kind of ambitious and I'll need to have my desk cleared a little first, but it's all coming on
